Passacaglia

Handel’s Passacaglia was originally part of his Harpsichord Suite in G minor, but Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen later adapted it for violin and viola (or cello). This version transforms Handel’s simple bassline into a dramatic and virtuosic duet. The piece follows the passacaglia form, with variations built over a repeating theme. Halvorsen’s arrangement showcases intricate interplay and technical brilliance, making it a favorite among string players.
