Behind the music:
Chopin’s Étude in C major, Op.10 No.1, nicknamed “Waterfall,” was published in 1833 and focuses on right-hand arpeggios across a wide range of the keyboard. It’s one of the most technically demanding études, requiring finger independence and control. Chopin wrote it as both a musical piece and a technical study for pianists. It opens Opus 10, a set dedicated to his friend Franz Liszt. The piece remains a favorite in piano competitions and conservatories.
