Behind the music:
Bohemia Rag was composed in 1919 by Joseph Lamb, one of the “Big Three” of classic ragtime alongside Scott Joplin and James Scott. Unlike many rags of the time, it features a smoother, more lyrical style with European influences. Lamb named it after a neighborhood in New York, not the Czech region. The piece blends syncopation with graceful melodies, showing Lamb’s unique take on the ragtime form. It’s now in the public domain and often used in piano recitals or period soundtracks.
