Behind the music:
Gai Printemps (Op. 11) is a piano piece by French composer Mel Bonis, written in 1889. It is the first part of her collection Cinq Pièces pour piano. The piece is in F-sharp minor and takes the form of an impromptu with lively rhythms and a cheerful character. It was first published by V. Durdilly and later reissued by Alphonse Leduc. Still performed in conservatories today, it showcases her lyrical and romantic style.
