“Op een grote paddestoel” is a well-known Dutch children’s song dating back to the early 20th century. The lyrics were written by Jean Louis Pisuisse in 1917. It’s often sung in schools and kindergartens and tells a short story of a gnome sitting on a big mushroom. Its melody comes from the 18th-century French folk song “Au clair de la lune. Over the years, it became a nostalgic tune for many generations in the Netherlands.
